School's Out! School's Out! Teacher Let the Monkeys Out!

And Momma took the Monkeys to the Zoo!

What a great trip!  The weather was perfect...not too hot, not too cold.  Not too sunny, not too cloudy.  The perfect combination for some happy humans and happy animals, mostly...on both parts.
Waiting for the dolphin show to start.

Sydney (in the pink) touching an elephant.

Hannah has loved giraffes since she was a toddler and has quite the collection.  She loved seeing this "little" one.

The new tiger exhibit is pretty amazing!  You are so close.

The baby (on the right) was about 3 to 4 months old and very entertaining for all of us to watch.

As we were leaving the zoo, a caterer walked past us and gave the girls pieces of cake.  Yum!

Flintstone 500

The last week of school, the 1st through 3rd grade students can participate in The Flintstone 500.  The kids design a "car" out of a cardboard box and participate in races against their classmates.  Both Hannah and Sydney really enjoyed designing and creating their car this year.  They also both won their first heats and were able to run in the semi-final race.  What fun!

Sydney smoking the competition!
Hannah in action!

Upon arriving at the track, I found Hannah sitting with her classmates.  (Note: boy, boy, boy, boy, Hannah, boy, boy, boy.)

Letterboxing: Neeva Nutty Style

I recently read a blurb about letterboxing in a magazine. I was intrigued, but not exactly sure what it was all about. I did a search on Google, scanned a few sites and was hooked. I shared the information with Scott and we decided to try it as a family.
Our first attempt was very spontaneous. We were very close to our local park and decided to try to find a letterbox Scott remembered reading about online. We did not have the clues with us and it was beginning to get dark. We were not successful, but we did have fun.  As we left the park that first attempt we knew the kids were hooked.  They were begging to continue looking. Hannah tearfully declared, “I didn’t think it would be fun, but it is!”.
One rule of letterboxing is to be inconspicuous and not reveal what you are doing to other people in the area. Oh my, is was funny to watch the girls "act natural" when other people approached us. "Natural" is not the word I would use to describe their actions. Sydney put her hands behind her back, whistled and avoided eye contact with others in her attempt to casual stroll down the path. Hannah, at one point, was ducking down and almost throwing herself on the ground in an attempt to hide. Too funny. Good memories.
The next day we prepared our log book, stamp (carved by moi) and Scott printed off some clues for letterboxes near some errands we needed to run.

Our first find.  I won't tell you where it was exactly.  I will tell you it is near I70 and State Road 267 in a busy area.

Find #2.  It is interesting to see where people choose to hide them, the stamps they create and others who have found them before.
The girls are looking forward to finding more as well as creating some to hide.

What is a "Neeva Nutty?"

Scott and the girls were goofing around one day long ago and Hannah declared him to be a "neeva nutty". Just a silly phrase she made up to describe him being silly. The phrase stuck and is part of our family culture, our family jargon. Our family story. Just know that if any of us call any of you a "neeva nutty", we say it with love.
